Q&A with Mrs Bath: Inspiring Creativity at Big Hill Primary

From the artroom to the op shop, Mrs Bath brings colour, creativity, and heart to everything she does. As Big Hill Primary’s dedicated Art Teacher, she’s spent over a decade helping students express themselves, build confidence, and discover the joy of making something uniquely their own. We caught up with Mrs Bath to learn more about her journey, her love for the Big Hill community, and what keeps her inspired every day.

Q: What is your current role at Big Hill Primary?

Mrs Bath: I’m proud to be the Art Teacher at Big Hill Primary. I get to work with students across different year levels, helping them explore their creativity, experiment with new techniques, and express themselves through art. It’s incredibly rewarding to see their ideas come to life on paper, canvas, or clay.

Q: How long have you been a teacher?

Mrs Bath: I’ve been teaching for 12 years now. It’s been an amazing journey filled with learning, laughter, and lots of paint! Every year brings new students, new projects, and new opportunities to grow alongside them.

Q: What inspired you to become a teacher?

Mrs Bath: As a student, I always enjoyed school, but I especially loved my art classes—and my art teachers were such positive influences in my life. I knew early on that I wanted a creative career, and teaching art felt like the perfect fit. It allows me to stay connected to my passion while also sharing it with young people and watching them discover their own talents.

Q: Do you have a favourite memory since becoming a teacher?

Mrs Bath: Honestly, it’s hard to pick just one! There have been so many special moments over the years. But what always stands out to me is seeing a student’s confidence grow in the artroom. Whether it’s a shy child proudly showing their work or someone discovering a hidden talent, those moments are truly magical and remind me why I love what I do.

Q: What do you love about the Lansell Square and Big Hill community?

Mrs Bath: The sense of community here is something really special. We’re lucky to have such wonderful and supportive families who are always willing to get involved and cheer on their children. It creates a warm, welcoming environment that makes coming to school each day a joy.

Q: What do you love to do in your free time?

Mrs Bath: I’m a big fan of op-shopping! I love the thrill of finding hidden treasures and giving pre-loved items a new life. It’s a fun and sustainable way to shop, and I often find inspiration for art projects in the most unexpected places.

Q: What’s your favourite food?

Mrs Bath: Pizza, hands down! It’s the ultimate comfort food—versatile, delicious, and perfect for sharing with family and friends.

Q: Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?

Mrs Bath: Coffee—all day, every day! It’s my go-to pick-me-up and a must-have to kickstart my mornings.

Q: If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Mrs Bath: I’d tell myself to worry less about what others think or expect from me. It’s so important to follow your own heart and trust your instincts. Staying true to yourself is the key to finding happiness and purpose.
